My Commitment to clients
I believe good tax service should feel calm, proactive, and human. I stick with clients year‑round, sniff out opportunities, and guard their tax position like it’s the last tennis ball in the yard.
No barking. No chasing squirrels. Just thoughtful tax work done right.

Meet Derek W.Goff, CPA – “Big Dog”
I started my tax career back when Bill Clinton was president, Amazon only sold books, and digital transformation meant a fax machine that actually worked. I’m young enough to have had an email account since high school!
After 30+ years, countless spreadsheets, and more tax law changes than anyone should endure, I’m still here — and still genuinely enjoy the work.
Most recently, I served as VP of Tax at a privately held company with billions in revenue. I led income tax, sales/use tax, property tax, excise tax, VAT, international reporting, M&A due diligence, and family office advisory.
Today, I run my boutique practice, delivering big-company experience with small-firm attention, clear explanations, and zero drama.
There is also a dog under the desk. Morale has improved.

Introduction
I believe good tax service should feel calm, proactive, and human. I stick with clients year‑round, sniff out opportunities, and guard their tax position like it’s the last tennis ball in the yard.
No barking. No chasing squirrels. Just thoughtful tax work done right.
I Don’t Foster Clients. I Adopt Them
Many people aren’t shopping for a CPA they’re suddenly looking for a new home.
My goal: Understanding your history, patterns, and priorities so we can make better decisions over time — together.
CPAs Are Retiring…Fast
The profession is experiencing a retirement wave, and fewer new accountants are entering the field. According to NJBIZ (2025) and The CPA Journal (2025), many experienced CPAs are leaving while the pipeline of new talent shrinks.
Think of it like losing your favorite frisbee dog: the new pup is enthusiastic but doesn’t quite fetch the same way. I don’t see those situations as foster engagements. I see them as potential adoptions.
Humor, Tax, and Dogs
Tax isn’t often a laughing matter. But seriousness doesn’t always equal competence! I enjoy building relationships and mixing professionalism with a little fun.
If you can handle dog humor, dad jokes, and a CPA who keeps spreadsheets AND morale high, maybe you’re the kind of client I want in my pack.
